2015 ECHO Golf Day

. March 23, 2015

On 6 March 2015 ECHO held its annual Golf Day at the Erinvale Golf Club in Somerset West. The aim of the Golf Day is to raise funds towards all ECHO activities, seeing as the Golf Day is ECHO’s biggest fundraiser. The first ECHO Golf Day occurred in 1999, two years after ECHO’s establishment. On that day we where we were able to raise R60 000. Since then, our best performing year was in 2009- just as most countries seemed to be recovering following the financial crisis of 2007-2008- where we were able to raise R345 000. This year, we managed to raise R102 945. In total, ECHO has raised over R10.5 million through various activities and donations.

Every year the Golf Day has a theme that gets guests excited- this year was no different. The theme for this year’s Golf Day was GREASE- and the décor was set to the 1950s- complete with a diner setting at the prize-giving dinner. Guests had to wear Black and white, with a touch of red.

One of the arms of ECHO support has been extended to students in the Helderberg region, and two of these students, Neasa May and Thandiwe Mkhetshane, were able to tell their stories at this year’s Golf Day. Four other ECHO graduates, Robin, Jamy, Bianca and Randall manned some of the wet holes on the day.

We received some great feedback- with people saying that we had a well-organised, smoothly run event which entices them to come back next year. ECHO would like to thank Lynette and Shona, our Golf Day committee and our team of 13 helpers who were here to great you at registration and on the course. We would also like to thank Frank, our club captain. Thank you to Greg and his team who always have our course in such good condition. Thanks Gavin and his team for the behind the scenes organisation. Lastly, thank you to Karli and her team for the food and refreshments and the Pro-Shop for setting up the course, scoring and the donation of the Cutter & Buck bags as our first prize.
