Our Mandela Day initiative – Cast on 4 Kids – was a great success and this was all thanks to you.

We were quite overwhelmed by the support we received, not only from individuals who spent many hours (more than 67 minutes!) knitting up squares, scarves, beanies, mitts and blankets, but also from other local charity organisations who shared the day with us.   A special thank you to Blankets of Hope, The Nightshelter, Aanhouwen, ECHO, Robari, Silver Oaks and Senecio.

Here are some amazing stats that you contributed towards:  1025 squares, 65 scarves, 80 blankets, 122 beanies, 20 Mitts, 10 jerseys and 1 bear.

Thank you to those who patiently taught the after-care children and our teachers to knit and to those who brought friends, family and children along to not only knit but to be part of Mandela’s legacy of ‘giving back’.

Our 3 principals thoroughly enjoyed the morning and they have decided to start a knitting group in Nomzamo!

We are busy getting the squares sewn up into blankets, but have managed to hand out a number of beanies, scarves and blankets.  This is what Portia Benxa of Eluxolo Day-care had to say:

As we are the children of Eluxolo Day Care we very much appreciate your help, because its winter time and now we feel warm. Mrs Coreen from Masikhule brings the blankets, soft toys etc.  Thanks a lot from Mrs Portia.  God may bless u.”
