ECHO partners with Masikhule

ECHO has embarked on a new pathway of assisting Masikhule, an early childhood development organization, in the quest to support and start-up reading corners in some of the nursery and pre-primary schools and crèches in registered that are registered with them.

The aim is to approach existing adult book clubs and ask them to adopt a school and then support that school by supplying a reading corner, which will be sustained each year by replacing, fixing and updating a given booklist. The bookshelves; scatter cushions, posters, blankets and other requirements for a book corner will be part of the donation. This will be ongoing and not just a “once-off” project.

We are truly excited about this venture, as we feel that it is achievable and can really make a difference in these schools.

Des and Lynette had the privilege of attending a teacher training course as observers; business courses for principals and visiting two up and running schools. They were so encouraged by the good work being done and will do all they can to support Masikhule in their vision to bring the joy of reading to young children.
