Starting a Band!

This is a story of hope and perseverance, of a boy who dreamed to do something which seemed impossible until he, by the grace of God, made it happen. This is the story of my band called the Psycho Disciples.

The group is called the Psycho Disciples which came about because at the time, we were all part of the youth group at our church and we were just crazy in love with the gospel of Jesus Christ. That was about 7 years ago. We were originally 3 guys and we only used a guitar for all our songs. We had 1 guy in the group that could play the guitar, I was writing and composing the music and the other member was the lead vocalist. We had a good run for about a year and a half performing at churches and youth functions and gatherings. We had some followers and things were looking great. Our message was positive and inspiring and it was mainly focused on the youth and we addressed current social problems the youth were experiencing through our music.

That however all fell apart when we found out that our one and only guitarist was going on stage taking a stand against the abuse of drugs, when in fact he was using drugs himself. This was a big blow for us and without any instruments there was no band. Me and the other band member stayed close and always talked about a revival. Well about 2 years ago, 2 years after the band broke up, I lost my job- which turned out to be a blessing as I had some free time to work on one of my dreams to record my music professionally.

I spoke to a few producers about recording with them, Ernie B from Pipeline records and a former member of Afro Z was keen to record our music but we opted for a producer from Ocean View whose label is called Exilic Records and who is a minister as well. Somehow by the grace of God and the support of my friends and family we finally got the breakthrough and after about 3 months in studio and countless hours and days of hard work, we came out with a CD which is called ‘YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE”. This story will hopefully inspire others to never give up.  Here are some inspiring words on this matter by the late great Nelson Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it is done”.
